Make room for your story.

Ideas to help you turn your experience into a conversation.

Practice notes · 4 minute exercise

Start with a story you know

Choose one experience that matters to the role you’re pursuing. It could be a project, a customer interaction, a team challenge or something you learned during your education.

  1. Set the scene. What was happening, and what needed attention?
  2. Explain your part. What were you responsible for, and what did you do?
  3. Share the result. What changed? Be specific about what you know.
  4. Reflect. What did you learn, and what would you do differently?

Say it out loud once. Then try again using fewer details and a clearer opening. Aim for a story that sounds like you.
